Relaxing Weekend Before Half Dome
Waddell Beach, CA Sunday, July 12th, 2015 This weekend I decided to take a break from all the training hikes that I had been enduring over the last few months in preparation of Half Dome. Saturday morning, my personal trainer invited me to join him on a morning run at the local high school track, something I had not done in over 20 years. I was a bit shocked that I was able to keep a steady 8 minute mile pace for 2.5 miles, but my calves were starting to cramp after that so I just walked for a bit. Afterward, my trainer and I hit the Gym to do…

Point Reyes Lighthouse
Inverness, CA Sunday, May 17th, 2015 Of the many trips I have made to the Pigeon Point Lighthouse in Pescadero, I had always wondered how many other significant lighthouses are nearby and after doing a little research I discovered that almost 30 lighthouses still stand along the California coast with just over a dozen that are open to the public. Point Reyes Lighthouse was the next lighthouse to visit on my list and with that came the inevitable road trip. With batteries all charged and camera gear bagged up, I loaded my rig with equipment and snacks, then hightailed it northbound. Unfortunately for me, I had a really rough night,…

Day at Point Lobos
Castroville, CA Sunday, May 17th, 2015 On the second day out with my old friend Julie, we set off for Point Lobos just south of Monterey via the Pacific Coast Highway out of Santa Cruz, CA. This stretch of highway is not as spectacular as the drive from Santa Cruz to Pescadero like the day before, but our Point Lobos destination will rival it in beauty no less. If you want to see what I mean, check out the travel blog for the day before here: “Coastal Adventures 2015” Along the way to Point Lobos State Preserve, we would eventually begin running into many small fruit stands and places to…

Coastal Adventures
Davenport, CA Saturday, May 16th, 2015 My long time friend Julie from the days when I was in a band had come up to visit and hang out with me this weekend to explore the coastline. We had gotten up and out on Saturday and started our way to Santa Cruz via Hwy 17. Once we hit Santa Cruz, our journey would take us northbound on the PCH 1. The scenery started off with very little view of the ocean as most of the land west of the highway was covered in dense foliage and farmland, but eventually that strip of land became more narrow as we approached our first…

Moss Landing 2014
A Quick Trip to the Monterey Bay Area Sunday, March 9th, 2014 To celebrate the start of daylight savings and longer days, Julia and I took a day trip to Moss Landing, just a short distance off the coast here, there exists the start of an underwater sea canyon that dwarfs the deepest parts of the Grand Canyon. The canyon begins in the middle of the Monterey Bay, and extends 95 miles into the Pacific Ocean where it terminates at the Monterey Canyon submarine fan, reaching depths of up to 11,800 ft below surface level at its deepest. Moss Landing ( 36.8067244°N, -121.7892203°W ) Moss Landing always seems to have…
